Description
The ViPrimePLUS Hepatitis E Virus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Hepatitis E Virus genome in faecal matter and food or water sample.
Hepatitis E virus is a single stranded RNA virus with a linear genome. There are about 20 million new cases reported each year globally. Transmission is usually through contaminated drinking water, i.e. fecal-oral route. HEV infection is normally self-limiting without lasting damage. However in rare occasion, fulminant hepatitis may develop leading to acute liver failure, with higher prevalence among pregnant ladies. Re-activation of HEV is found in immunocompromised patients, resulting in chronic infection.
